Report: Turkey ready to buy 50,000 tns of meat/year from Russia
ANKARA, Nov 18 (PRIME) -- Turkey is ready to import about 50,000 tonnes of meat from Russia annually, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Faruk Celik told newspaper Hurriyet in an interview published on Friday.
“It is known that we have a red meat deficit and we must import it. Our demand is about 150,000–200,000 tonnes. And Russians are offering to partially cover it. We could import about 50,000 of red meat from Russia,” Celik said.
The official also said that he will discuss with his Russian counterpart a start of poultry supplies to Russia and a decrease of customs duties – which would otherwise be prohibitive – on Turkish poultry products.
He also added that to lift Russian restrictions on supplies of Turkish agricultural products will take some time.
